Formula guide used by this calculator
This calculator uses the age-and-weight guide published by Australia's Pregnancy, Birth and Baby service, which references the Australian Infant Feeding Guidelines.
Use the daily figure as a general guideIt is not an amount your baby must finish. Individual feeding needs vary.
2
Let baby guide individual feedsIf you entered a bottle count, the per-bottle figure is simply the daily guide divided evenly for planning. Babies do not necessarily drink the same amount at every feed.
3
Prepare formula exactly as directedAlways follow the instructions on the formula container and use the scoop supplied. Do not alter the powder-to-water ratio to match this calculator.

Every baby is different. Australian guidance provides age-and-weight-based amounts as a general guide, but some babies need more and some need less. Follow your baby's hunger and fullness cues and seek professional advice if you are concerned.
The calculator multiplies the baby's weight by the Australian daily guide for the selected age range. For babies aged 1–4 days, it displays a range because the published guide is 30–60 mL per kg per day.
No. If you enter a bottle count, the per-bottle number is simply the daily guide divided evenly for planning. Babies can drink different amounts at different feeds, so follow their feeding cues.
There is no single correct number for every baby. Pregnancy, Birth and Baby says newborns generally have 6–8 feeds in 24 hours, while older babies from around 3 months are generally satisfied with around 5–6 bottles. Your baby's own feeding cues remain important.
No. Always prepare formula according to the manufacturer's instructions and use the scoop supplied with that formula. Do not add extra powder, extra water or partial scoops unless the manufacturer's instructions specifically direct you to do so.
This calculator is based on guidance for healthy, full-term babies of normal birth weight. Premature and low-birth-weight babies can have different needs, so seek specific advice from your baby's healthcare team.
Australian NHMRC guidance does not recommend animal milk, including cow's milk, as the main drink for infants under 12 months. If an infant is not breastfed or is partially breastfed, infant formula is the recommended alternative under 12 months.
